I’ve been painting homes in the Atlanta area for 28 years now. Sometimes, saying this out loud doesn’t seem real. I’ve witnessed many painting trends come and go, some not fast enough. I say this to inform you that some trends aren’t worth pursuing.
Things to consider when looking at the current painting trends. How long will you be in your home? What life stage is your family currently in? What spaces of the house do you enjoy spending time in, either as a family or just you? Trends come with a cost to you and your family’s budget.
If you plan to move out in the next couple of years, consider the current trends if your home looks dated. Consult a trusted realtor with experience in your neighbourhood and area before deciding.
If your family is growing, sometimes following trends can be costly. Children can be hard on surfaces, requiring repairs before the trend has time to pass.
Ultimately, the decision to follow a trend or not should be driven by your personal preferences. If the current trend aligns with your taste and you envision yourself enjoying it, go for it! After all, your home should be a space where you and your family can truly relish your time together.
Now, some of the trends! It seems grey is finally out! Warmer colours have pushed their way back onto the scene. Yes, beige is back. Matte finishes for walls are included, too. Look for darker stains for an accent to wood trim cabinets in your kitchen and baths. Painted ceilings pack a punch in dining rooms – some call it the fifth wall. Accent walls with trim painted in different tones can bring a nice touch to any living area. So, follow the trends or not, just have fun with all your painting projects and remember it’s your home!
